Rob Burton

London-based saxophonist Rob Burton won the Woodwind Category Final of BBC Young Musician 2018 performing as concerto soloist in the Grand Final at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Subsequent highlights have included performances across the UK and Channel Islands at Leicester, Cheltenham, Harrogate, and Oundle International Festivals and being invited to the European Soloists Festival in Caracas, Venezuela. He has appeared as soloist with ‘Orchestra of the City’, Jersey Symphony, Lambeth Wind, Harrow, and Solihull Symphony Orchestras and in prestigious London venues including St. Johns Smith Square, St. James’ Piccadilly, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. In 2020 Rob premièred concerti by Paul Carr and Michael Lawson at the Arosa Klassik Festival, Switzerland. Rob was winner of Silk Street Sinfonia’s Young Artists Concerto Competition, the 2019 Hans Schaeuble Award in Switzerland, and the ‘Sussex Prize for Woodwind’ in the Royal Overseas League Annual Music Competition Final. Rob studied Classical Saxophone on a full scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music with Huw Wiggin and previously was Principal Saxophone with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain. He is currently studying at the Zürich University of the Arts (ZHdK) under Professor Lars Mlekusch.
